Tiradentes
Joaquim José da Silva Xavier

Joaquim José da Silva Xavier was a military man, miner, slave owner, dentist, drover and member of a conspiracy in favor of Brazil’s independence. Tiradentes was one of the participants in the elaboration of plans for a revolt whose objective was the political emancipation of Brazil as a colony of Portugal. The plans of the revolt were denounced to the colonial authorities and those involved were arrested. Tiradentes was the only one of the rebels sentenced to the death penalty, the rest were sentenced to exile.
Joaquim José Xavier was hanged in Rio de Janeiro in 1792. The plans of the revolt did not aim at the abolition of slavery, most of the members were slavery and Tiradentes had 6 enslaved.
